Lukaku, choosing whether to sign the Belgian or to go for Paulo Dybala
Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku will ‘devote’ himself to making a switch back to Inter Milan this summer as he returns to London to find a way out of Stamford Bridge, according to reports in Italy. This comes after a hugely disappointing season at Stamford Bridge, where so much was expected from the £97.5 million man.

It has been reported that Inter are ready to make their decision regarding Lukaku, choosing whether to sign the Belgian or to go for Paulo Dybala on a free transfer instead. Inter’s finances mean that they cannot afford a permanent deal for the forward, as the Italians are looking to bring him back on a two-year loan deal with a view to signing him permanently in the future.

Chelsea have so far demanded a €20 million fee to send their striker on loan for the upcoming season, with the Serie A side in preference of a two-year loan with a view to a permanent transfer after this. Lukaku netted 30 goals in his last season at the San Siro, lifting the Serie A title and earning a club-record move to Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea.

Things have not worked out since his arrival in London, and it appears that he will now force his way back to Italy. Italian news outlet Corriere dello Sport have stated that Lukaku will now fly to London to ‘free himself’ from Chelsea. The report continues to write that ‘everything suggests that Lukaku will act in person, meaning that he will go to London to meet Chelsea and get the green light to get back into Nerazzuri colours’. Chelsea have no intention of letting him leave on a ‘free loan’, with the fee that they have cited being ‘far from Inter’s availability.

Therefore, the Italians have embraced the fact that they will not be handed the forward for free this summer. Having been allowed to leave the Belgium camp during the UEFA Nations League, the report continues to explain that he has been ‘free from commitments’, with his international side, and he will ‘devote himself to his real big summer goal, which is to return to Inter’.

Once Chelsea meet with Lukaku, they will look to engineer an exit with Inter Milan this summer, putting an end to a miserable comeback to Stamford Bridge, where Lukaku will go down as a disappointing transfer for the Blues. It remains to be seen as to how quickly a deal can be agreed as it looks like an exit is the only possibility for the forward.
